The standard Tower neck has a small straw, and with its hard outer modular plastic it can be positioned and left in place. This neck is best for individuals with mild to moderate reduced lung function, since the straw is smaller. The Tower XL neck still has the hard outer modular plastic, but the inner straw is much larger. This neck is best for individuals who have full lung function but have limited to no use of their hands. Finally, the Journey neck is as large as the Tower XL, but does not have the outer shell, making it best for individuals with partial paralysis or that are recovering from surgery who have limited use of their hands. With the bottle lid unscrewed (so you can put your drink in), the flexible neck assembly screws into the lid spout. Position the bottle in a location where it is lower than the end of the drinking tube. In addition, keep the neck as short as possible and when possible bend the tip up at the end to help prevent drips. One of the Giraffe Bottle's unique features is the inclusion of a check valve. With the check valve in place, your drink won't retreat back into the bottle after taking a sip. For those with limited lung function, keeping liquid primed and at-the-ready makes staying hydrated a breeze. If the check valve isn't necessary for your application then simply unscrew the neck, remove the check valve, and it's that easy! The Tower standard neck is the original Giraffe Bottle neck - it's the one you're viewing right now. It has that black hard outer modular hose that will hold the straw in place however it is positioned, and it utilizes the removable check valve that keeps liquid in the straw after the first sip. The straw is a bit smaller than a normal straw, so it is best for individuals with mild to moderate reduced lung functioning. The Tower XL neck is just like what it sounds - the standard Tower, but bigger. The straw on this neck is as big as the Journey neck, and is designed for individuals with full lung and mouth functioning. Instead of a check valve, it has a bite valve, which also keeps the liquid in the straw and allows the user to control the flow. Keep in mind that since the bite valve is removable, it can present a choking issue for individuals without full mouth control. The Journey neck is designed as a less expensive alternative for individuals with limited upper body mobility. The Journey neck does not have the hard outer modular hose, so it is much more flexible. It has a small clothing clip to assist in positioning, and is best for individuals with partial paralysis, amputees, or people who are recovering from surgery and/or are in physical therapy recovering from an injury.
